Appeal application webform – important information -please read

This application form is for authorised centre representatives and private candidates only. Applications from internal candidates and parents will be rejected as invalid.  If you were enrolled, studied and completed your examinations at a school or college then you are an internal candidate and must contact them for support. Private candidates are individuals who are not enrolled in a school or college, and who prepare for their exams independently.

Before you complete and submit an appeal application on the webform, please read the questions below. If you cannot answer ‘yes’ to all of the relevant questions below, please do not submit an appeal application as it will not be valid, and we will not be able to process it.

  1. Are you a Head of Centre, authorised centre representative or a Private Candidate?
  2. Is your application within the permitted timescale?  (i.e. within 30 calendar days of the date of the letter giving the outcome of a review of marking/moderation or within 14 calendar days of the date of the outcome of a malpractice, access arrangement/special consideration decision, administrative decision or preliminary appeal outcome, or if you are applying for an appeal hearing).
  3. Do you understand that marks can go up, stay the same or go down as an outcome of an appeal?
  4. Do you have the required consent from the learner(s) to submit an appeal on their behalf?
  5. Have you read and understood the appeals fee information on our website Post-results services | Pearson qualifications and confirmed permission of the relevant budget holder for payment of any appeals fees that will be incurred?
  6. Do you have all of the information you need to submit the appeal, including specific information on where you believe a marking/moderation error has occurred or why you believe a malpractice, access arrangement/special consideration decision is incorrect?
  7. Is the matter you are contacting us about an appeal or a request for a review of an administrative decision (such as an estimated mark)? If not, please do not use this webform as we cannot process complaints or general enquiries. Your application will be invalid.

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all of the questions above, please complete the form below and submit your application. Please note:

  1. A post results marking/moderation appeal may only relate to one component/paper of a qualification. If you wish to appeal more than one component, please submit these as separate appeals.
  2. A post results marking appeal may only relate to one candidate for an externally assessed component. If you wish to appeal more than one candidate, please submit these as separate appeals. Moderated component appeals must relate to all candidates included in the moderation.
  3. A post results marking/moderation appeal is not an opportunity for another review of marking/moderation. You must provide specific information about where you believe there are errors in marking/moderation and explain why (JCQ examples).
  4. Being close to a grade boundary is not a valid reason for an appeal. Applications on that basis only will be invalid and will not be processed.
You will receive confirmation of your submission immediately and this will include a unique case code reference. If the screen appears blank, please scroll up to see the information. Keep a record of the appeal reference number as we will use it in all correspondence about the appeal.

  • Preliminary appeals and review of administrative decisions can take up to 42 calendar days to process. Please do not contact us within that timescale for updates, as we are not able to provide progress updates or prioritise one appeal over others. We are aware that places in FE and HE may be dependent on the outcome of an appeal, but that is the case for many appeals, and we must process them in the order in which they are received.
  • Appeal hearings can take up to 70 calendar days to process and complete. We will contact you with a date for the hearing within that timescale.
